A New Chapter for Local Sport: Introducing Central Fife ClubSport
We are now Central Fife ClubSport
Thursday 5th March 2026 marked an important milestone for grassroots sport across the region as Kirkcaldy & Central Fife Sports Council officially became Central Fife ClubSport.
While the name may be changing, the mission that has guided the organisation since its formation in 2006 remains exactly the same: supporting, strengthening and championing sport across Central Fife.
For almost two decades the Sports Council has worked quietly but effectively behind the scenes, helping local clubs, volunteers and organisations grow opportunities for people of all ages to participate in sport and physical activity. From recognising outstanding local athletes and volunteers at our annual awards ceremony to supporting clubs with advice, development opportunities and funding guidance, the organisation has played a key role in the sporting life of the region.
The move to Central Fife ClubSport reflects both the evolution of the organisation and a desire to modernise how it represents sport across the area.
Why the Change?
The new name better reflects what the organisation does and who it serves.
Central Fife ClubSport exists to support sports clubs and the volunteers who run them. The new identity places clubs firmly at the centre of the organisation’s purpose, recognising the vital role they play in communities across the region.
Grassroots sport relies heavily on volunteers who give their time and energy to coach, organise, fundraise and support participants of all ages. The work of Central Fife ClubSport is focused on helping those volunteers and organisations thrive.
By adopting the ClubSport identity, the organisation also aligns itself more closely with the wider Scottish ClubSport network, strengthening connections with national bodies that share the same commitment to developing community sport.
Continuing a Proud Legacy
Although the name has changed, the organisation continues to build on the strong foundations created by the Kirkcaldy Area Sports Council and later the Kirkcaldy & Central Fife Sports Council.
Since its establishment in 2006, the organisation has worked across a wide geographic area including:
- Kirkcaldy
- Glenrothes
- Leven
- Burntisland
- Kinghorn
- Thornton
- Windygates
- Kennoway
- Markinch
- Leslie
- Kinglassie
- Cluny
- Auchtertool
Across these communities there are hundreds of clubs and thousands of participants involved in sports ranging from football and rugby to athletics, ice hockey, dance, disability sport and many more.
Each year these achievements are celebrated through the organisation’s annual sports awards which recognise exceptional performances and dedication within local sport. The awards highlight the incredible breadth of sporting talent and volunteer commitment that exists across Central Fife.
Supporting Clubs and Volunteers
Central Fife ClubSport will continue to provide practical support to clubs and organisations across the region.
This includes helping clubs:
- Identify suitable funding opportunities
- Access development advice and resources
- Connect with partners and national governing bodies
- Strengthen governance and sustainability
- Promote participation in sport and physical activity
In some cases, the organisation is also able to provide small grants to member clubs where no other funding sources are available.
However, the most valuable support often comes through knowledge sharing, networking and collaboration, helping clubs learn from each other and build stronger community sports environments.
Celebrating the Power of Grassroots Sport
Sport plays a hugely important role in communities. It brings people together, promotes physical and mental wellbeing and provides opportunities for young people to develop confidence, teamwork and leadership.
The stories highlighted through the annual awards show just how powerful grassroots sport can be, with athletes competing nationally and internationally, volunteers dedicating hundreds of hours to their communities and clubs expanding their reach across the region.
These achievements are made possible by the dedication of volunteers, coaches, officials and community leaders who give their time to make sport accessible for everyone.
Central Fife ClubSport exists to support those individuals and ensure that community sport continues to thrive.
Looking Ahead
The transition to Central Fife ClubSport represents a fresh chapter for the organisation and an opportunity to strengthen the support available to local clubs.
In the coming years the organisation hopes to expand its reach, welcome more member clubs and continue advocating for the importance of sport within Central Fife.
The aim remains simple and unchanged: to see more people taking part in sport and physical activity and to ensure the clubs that make this possible continue to grow and succeed.
Grassroots sport is built on community spirit, volunteer commitment and a shared passion for participation.
Central Fife ClubSport is proud to stand alongside the clubs and people who make that happen every day.
